The BAFTA awards came with some controversy last night. John Davidson, a Tourette syndrome activist and subject of the film I Swear, issued a statement after an outburst where he shouted the N-word during the BAFTA Film Awards. He said he is “deeply mortified” and emphasized that his verbal tics are involuntary and don’t reflect his beliefs or intentions. Davidson said he left the ceremony early because he realized his tics were causing distress. BAFTA also apologized directly to Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo, who are both black and were onstage at the time.
